Amazon Web Services (AWS)

AWS is the largest cloud computing provider in the world. I work primarily on physical retrofits, which means we work in the live data centers. This is super sensitive work since flipping the wrong switch can bring down a bank or medical service. We call this kind of construction the ‘critical space’! It’s super exciting to be working in this field these days, as we are a big part of delivering capacity for AI workloads that are always in the news.

Most of what I do is confidential, and I’m just going to paste the high-level resume below. But I have lots of thoughts and ideas based on publicly available information. Feel free to connect!

Technical Infrastructure Program Manager July 2024– Present

Critical Programs Team (CPT) delivering design-build retrofit projects to the live side data centers. Owner of 5 national/global retrofit programs ranging from 15-200+ projects ($100M+ annual spend), and 4 global process improvement initiatives. Scope includes development of program build strategy, aligning global design standards, creating pre-construction documentation, evaluating proposals for national awards, negotiating national EPC contract terms, developing project controls for at scale deployment, owning reporting for stakeholders/executives, supporting project managers and engineers as ‘program SME’, mentoring teammates, and supporting interviews for technical hires across the org. Programs include fire protection, structural, networking, electrical, mechanical, and controls integration disciplines. Global process improvement initiatives include the design/rollout of project closeout tooling, ownership of org-wide cost control goals, and the development of headcount/demand modeling for global construction teams (influencing $1B+ spend across an org of 100 headcount, delivering 3000+ retrofits projects).
